So in the last few days...weeks...months...I've realized that I've become addicted to social media. I have a tumblr that I would spend the majority of my online time browsing through, and also I constantly have been tweeting and reading up on everyone's posts on Facebook. I would use those sites to distract myself from school, and so on.
Finally, I have decided to take a complete break from those sites. I'm starting semi-easy, with taking breaks from Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. I didn't have a hard time with Tumblr, although I did check in a few times after I made an official "I'm-taking-a-break" post to see if anyone said anything. I have only stopped Facebook and Twitter for a day now, and I have to keep reminding myself to not check things out on those sites. I have a habit of just opening my Twitter app on my iPhone, and now I have to train myself to not do that.
So, this is my good thing. I am fasting from these social media sites indefinitely. I don't want to be so heavily dependent on needing to know information right away. I want to spend more time away from my computer, and I also want to spend more time actually working on schoolwork. School needs to be priority!
Wish me luck! *gulp*

Obsessions
Obsessions: current
These are the online things I can’t get enough of right now and wanted you to know so you can enjoy them too! The links are within the words in the descriptions, hover over words to find clickable links so you, too, can enjoy the wonderfulness of these things. I tried to put the ** symbol around text that would be a link, but they kind of just blend...anyway!
- The Lizzie Bennett Diaries on YouTube. You can find the channel here, by clicking here: http://www.youtube.com/LizzieBennet, and *here is the link to go straight to the playlist so you can watch the videos in order*. This is a web series created by Hank Green and Bernie Su, and it is a modern-day vlog that is completely based on the book ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. It is brilliance that can be found on YouTube and I highly recommend watching it. I haven’t even read the book fully and I love this series.
- The H+ Digital Series, also found on YouTube. Find the link *here to click on, and start the adventure today*. It is still brand new on YouTube so it isn’t too far ahead in the series yet. The point is that the episodes are purposely being played out-of-order, and it is kind of a mystery for the user to figure out what has happened. I like it because it is more of a strategically finding out the story for yourself, and reminds me of Doctor Who with that sense. Created by John Cabrera, it’s the story about what happens when the world takes technology too far, and how the population survives after. Highly recommend.
- About.com. I’ve used *this site* plenty of times when trying to look up information for school, and it has really come in handy. The site uses experts to explain many topics for the general public to better understand. It is extra helpful because it is a site I can use as a reference for papers, which is always a plus when teachers require a certain amount of references. The contributors seem to know their shit, so if you need information, here’s a good place to search.
- Art House Co-op. *The Art House Co-Op is a project that uses the mass population to come together to create art and media simultaneously and eventually show-case them in art galleries and other displays*. The site has many different types of projects, and there is usually something that everyone can contribute to, whether you are an artist or not. Trust me, I’m definitely on the “not” side, so seeing projects that even I can participate in is great fun. Projects like the Sketchbook project, where the site will mail you a sketchbook to fill within a specified time period and mail it back, or The Chronicle Project, where people documented a day of their lives with whatever means of media they wanted: pictures, diaries, etc, and submitted the information. It is fascinating.
- Olan Rogers. Most of you have probably seen his video, *Ghost in the Stalls* (and if you haven't, GO WATCH IT NOW). Olan is super, super funny, and loves to tell stories on his vlog about events that have happened in his life. What makes me enjoy them even more are when he starts giggling mid-story because he still finds the story absolutely hilarious. *Find his channel here*.
There are runner-ups to the list too, that I didn’t really want to describe, but just share:
- *Jake the Movie Guy*, who has the best celeb interviews I’ve found on the web.
- *Team Starkid’s YouTube*, because, well, obviously.
- *VlogBrothers*, because Hank and John Green are two of the funniest dudes on the ‘net.
- *Squaresville series on YouTube* because it is really good. Co-stars Mary Kate Wiles who plays Lydia Bennett on the Lizzie Bennett Diaries, in case some of you have seen her in that.
So, there’s more, but this is the general basis of why I get nothing done all day. :)

Making goals
It's weird to consider that the person you've been best friends with your entire life is suffering through cancer.
I try not to dwell on it, honestly, because it keeps feeling like it isn't that bad. Some treatments and it should go away, you think.
But now, things are turning to a little more serious route and you can't help but wonder if you will have your friend around for a long time still.
I don't want to think like that, so I won't.
But here is my resolve: My goal from now till...whenever...is to post positive things that are happening in my life. I complain too much about stupid stuff. My best friend has cancer: my life is not that bad.
So, here's a good thing: I got enough sleep last night! I was super tired and went to bed early for once, and so I feel well-rested.
Now if I can get my butt up to get to work on time....that's another goal. ;)
Ciao.
